Secrets Of Salah – 3

Salam,
Bismillah.

Drought and famine repeatedly attack the heart and soul; therefore Allah renews the invitation to His banquet for His slave time and time again, five times a day as His special mercy. Each time the slave stands before his master appealing for divine kindness, his thirst is quenched by the one who sends spiritual rain for the hearts and clouds bearing the rain, so that the vegetation of Imaan does not wither and the fruits of goodness do not waste away, and so the heart may constantly be watered and nurtured by the rain of Divine Mercy.

The drought of the heart is heedlessness, and as long as the slave is in a state of remembering Allah and advancing towards Him, the rain of divine mercy falls upon him in gentle succession like continuous rain drops. But if he becomes heedless, his heart is afflicted with famine, in proportion to the extent of his heedlessness. Were heedlessness to become part of his nature, his heart would become like a dry barren desert, and the wild fire of worldly desires and lusts would wreak havoc in that desert, raging from all directions like a hot wind.  And his land would become barren, though it had been fertile once, with all kinds of fruits and vegetations. Yet if the rain of Divine mercy were to fall upon it, it could once again bloom, and flower and revert to its original state of beauty and lush greenery.

Since Allah tests His slave with desires and temptations, outward and inward, His infinite mercy and generosity also decrees that a beautiful, rich, and colorful banquet be prepared for His slave, comprising all kinds of delicacies, in addition to robes of honor and exquisite gifts. He invites all to this banquet five times daily, and He places in each delicacy of that magnificent banquet an individual taste, benefit, and dignity which cannot be found in any other delicacy. So the slave, who has been invited to this banquet, may fully savor the delight of each delicacy of that banquet of devotion and Allah may honor him in every conceivable way.

Each stage of this deed of worship cleanses the slave of impurities, confers upon him a distinctive radiance. For salat is an illumination and a source of spiritual strength in the heart and body that enhances his rizq, and instills love in the hearts of people for him. And the angels rejoice at his salat, as does the earth itself, the mountains, trees and streams. Moreover, this salat will be the means of bestowing upon the slave a special radiance and a reward on the Day of Judgment.

As for the fortunate guest who attends this banquet, his hunger is assuaged and his thirst is quenched, as he is embraced by Divine Acceptance, and spiritually enriched. Though before he came to this banquet he was suffering from hunger and intense thirst, spiritual famine and drought, nakedness and sickness, but after his salat he emerges enriched by spiritual food and drink, rich robes and priceless gems.

Secrets Of Salah – 1

Salam,
Bismillah.

Salat is the coolness of the heart of true lovers of Allah, the soul’s ecstasy of true believers, the garden of worshippers, the heart’s delight of devout believers, the touchstone of the states of the truthful and the gauge of the followers of the spiritual path. And this is Allah’s Mercy and Guidance for His believing slaves.

Allah guided them to it through His prophet Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wasalam), the Truthful, the Trustworthy, as a great honor and mercy, so they may attain dignity and success by drawing near to Him, and not because of any need He has for their worship. Rather, it is a special bounty from Him and a favor He confers upon them, whereby their hearts and limbs can devote themselves to the worship of Allah. The heart which is illuminated with the knowledge of Allah derives the greatest benefit from salat, namely, drawing close to Allah and experiencing the incredible sweetness of His nearness and love. It experiences the delight of standing before Him, bowing before Him, till the glorious climax of salat, when the slave falls to the ground in the posture which pleases his Lord; thus fulfilling the rights of worship both outwardly and inwardly.
